The Song Room is a national not-for-profit organisation that brightens the futures of Australia’s most disadvantaged children with tailored, high-quality music and arts programs, delivered in partnership with schools across the country.
Our music and arts programs are tailored to suit the needs of each individual school, taking into consideration each school’s cohort, their challenges, experiences and aspirations, whilst aligning to the underpinnings of the Australian arts curriculum. Not only does this equip students with the skills to develop their own creativity, our programs are also independently proven to lift their academic performance, school attendance, social-emotional wellbeing and community involvement.
Alarmingly, three in four children have no access to music education in Australian schools. This is despite a compelling body of evidence that shows that music and the arts are incredibly important to improving children’s skills in all aspects of their school life. Research shows that children participating in the Song Room workshop program for 6 months had greatly improved results in literacy as well as mathematics and science. In addition to this, our programs help encourage previously disengaged students to become positive members of their community. This is why The Song Room was born, and why it has grown to a national organisation brightening the futures of over 20,000 Australian children every week.
In addition to our face-to-face programs, we also reach over 1 million Australian school children through our digital arts education platform, ARTS:LIVE, a one-stop arts hub available free to every primary and secondary school in Australia.
Developed in partnership with Australia’s leading artists and arts organisations, ARTS:LIVE promotes active collaboration between teachers and students in the delivery of five key art forms; music, visual arts, dance, drama, and media arts, through easy to access, curriculum-aligned, classroom-ready teaching and learning materials.
